Customer Reviews about Lakeside Pediatrics South: Rolette Ayanna N MD

I read reviews. In the day and age of the internet, one can get online and read reviews on just about anything. Reviews are other people's summary of experiences they have had- whether positive or negative. Most times, people trust reviews and make decisions as a result of a review they have read. Some believe that reviews are trustworthy. I mean, for a person to sit down and write a review means that they have something to say about their experience. I've read a lot of negative reviews about things. But, I have also read many positive reviews. My review today is to talk directly about my experience. I guess my assumption that doctors are Servant Leaders should be re-evaluated (Doctors go into the helping industry because they care about people, right?). My review is not to berate a person. It is only to confront the behavior. My son had an appointment as a new patient on 4/15/2015 with this doctor. I was impressed with the office staff and their willingness to help me with an insurance issue. Once that issue was resolved, we were called to the back. We waited nearly an hour to be seen. I understand doctor office wait times as this clinic was super busy. They have 22 doctors affiliated with this clinic. The total visit to the clinic was a little over 2 hours (I had all of my paperwork already completed). When the doctor came in, we started off with a cordial conversation. As we began discussing my son's allergies and asthma, previous medical records, medications, and previous diagnosis, the conversation suddenly turned. The energy became harsh and belittling. It seemed that the energy behind the questions to my son was insensitive. Comments made to my son (while talking about his allergies and asthma) were, "You have a problem. Something is wrong with you. I mean you are not normal." I was taken aback. I had never heard a doctor speak to an 11-year-old child like that. More than that, I believe there were a lack bedside manners. It felt like we were rushed through our appointment. Our concerns were not heard or validated. One of our main reasons for the appointment was to address a concern that had been bothering my son. No plan of action was addressed or discussed. I felt like his physical exam was more like a basic training experience (not to down the military in no way). My son was ordered around insensitively, and his anxiety about the private examination was met with harsh words. The tone and energy around the directions to my son were cold and uninviting. I think children respond better to care and kindness. Children sense good energy. Near the end of our short time together, a nurse knocked on the door and said she needed to speak to the doctor after she was done. The doctor abruptly got up and walked out without so much as a look in our direction. Granted, we were still waiting on the nurse to come in back and administer a shot to my son, but we felt like we were abandoned. Overall, the energy exhibited throughout our appointment was intimidating, uninviting, insensitive, and lacked kindness. I am addressing the behavior here and not the person. I understand that when doctors have huge caseloads, it can be overwhelming. One is just trying to get from one patient to the next to get them all seen. But, I also think that the quality of healthcare/patient care/Doctor-patient relationships are sorely affected when we begin to lose the personal touch. The people-person part of it. It is my wish that others will have a better experience than we did. I am sending light, love, and positive energy. At the end of the day, all people really need is love.
